The Mk1 Ford Cortina – a car that was well known for its race and rally pedigree in the 1960’s. This is a example of a true survivor of that very era.

First registered and supplied on 18th May 1966 by Hooley’s garage Ltd of Derby road in Nottingham to its first owner (Mr Lionel Castledine) who owned the car for just 1 year before trading the vehicle in to Brownhills garage of main street Bullwell in May 1967. The vehicle was the supplied for its second and last time to its second owner (Mr John Walker) in September 1967 before being purchased by ourselves from Mr Walker’s widow in 2014.

When we purchased the vehicle from Mrs Walker she made it clear that the vehicle has been off the road for a prolonged period. when we got the car back to our premises we then set about sympathetically recommissioning the vehicle while retaining its originality. The car has been part of our collection ever since.

The vehicle has covered just 36,612 miles from new documented through an extensive history file consisting of the original green logbook from its original registration date, original service book and old MOT documents and an interesting invoice from 1967 documenting extras that Mr Walker installed to the vehicle which are still present today.

It is more than clear to see when you correlate the service history to the overall condition of the car that the mileage is genuine.

It is evident when looking at the history file that the vehicle was parked up in 1974 when the owner had become unable to drive due to illness. The mileage then was 35,295. Since then the car was re MOT’d from 2011 onwards by a relative of Mrs Walker purely to take the vehicle to local shows.

Importantly there is an invoice from 1967 showing a collection of parts and extras that were added to the vehicle by the late Mr Walker including the following: Lotus flash, reversing lights, front seat belts, rear speakers, wooden rim steeling wheel,  racing wing mirror and a badge bar and driving lamps. This came to the grand total of £91.17.6

The vehicle is supplied on genuine Ford/Lotus 5.5J steel wheels and hubcaps with new Bridgestone tires. We also have a set of Rostyle wheels that can be supplied with the car too.

Overall this is a fantastic, usable classic car which boasts great provenance through the car itself and through its history file retaining all of its original documents, 2 set of keys and original jack.

Not to be missed – This is a car that will appeal to enthusiasts and would suit well in any collection.
